Competition Calendar
Across the motu, competitions bloomed — from nationwide contests to local treasures — inviting poets of all ages and stages to put pen to paper. Some drew hundreds of entries, others unearthed hidden gems in schools, libraries, and community halls, but together they showcased the remarkable breadth of talent in Aotearoa.
Watch this space: The first 2026 competitions will begin appearing once registrations are complete and entries are open.

ANNUAL NZSA WAIKATO POETRY COMPETITION
Entry Details:
- One entry per person. In order to be eligible to enter & win writers must currently be based in the Waikato region.
- Each entry is to be formatted in 12-point font & double-spaced.
- Entries should be submitted as a Word document or as a pdf.
- Entries are limited to a maximum of one A4 page. Your name should only appear in your email entry but not on the A4 Word Document itself.
- Competition is free to enter.
- Competition Prizes; 1st place prize $30 Poppies Book Voucher, 2nd place prize $25 Poppies Book Voucher and 3rd place prize $20 Poppies Book Voucher. Winners will be announced at the August meeting.
- Top 3 placed poems will be shared in the September Newsletter.
- Entries must be submitted to waikatobranchnzsa@gmail.com by 11:59pm on 3rd August.
