National Poetry Day 2026 brought poetry to communities across Aotearoa, with events for every kind of poetry lover.
From intimate workshops and library lock-ins to street poetry, spoken word, exhibitions and community celebrations, organisers found their own ways to celebrate poetry on Friday 28 August.

TAURANGA LIBRARY – LINES & LYRICS
We are calling for poetry-lovers, both readers and writers, to join Lines & Lyrics for a celebration of poetry!
Come along to enjoy poetry readings by local poets and share your own poems or favourites at the open mic. During this event, we’ll also announce the L&L National Poetry Day 2026 Competition prize winners.
