    2017 New Zealand Book Awards for Children & Young Adults finalist events for schools will take place in Wellington on Monday 14 August.

    The authors appearing are, for Primary Schools:

    Gavin Bishop, Helper and Helper
    Josh Morgan, Te Kaihanga Mapere
    Sacha Cotter, Te Kaihanga Mapere
    Kawata Teepa, Te Kaihanga Mapere
    Richard Fairgray, My Grandpa is a Dinosaur
    Gillian Candler, From Moa to Dinosaurs: Explore & Discover Ancient New Zealand
    Fraser Smith, Awatea's Treasure

    And for Secondary Schools:
    Brian Falkner, Shooting Stars
    Mary-Anne Scott, Coming Home to Roost
    David Hair, Kiwis at War 1916: Dig for Victory
    L J Ritchie, Like Nobody's Watching

    All sessions take place in the Renouf Foyer, Michael Fowler Centre, 111 Wakefield Street Wellington on Monday 14 August.

    Below are the details for the events these authors are appearing in, and details on how to confirm your booking for your students:

    PRIMARY SCHOOLS
    Session 1
    When: 9.30am
    Duration: 45 minutes
    Julie Lamb, Gavin Bishop, Josh Morgan, Sacha Cotter and Kawata Teepa all talk about creating their books, and then take questions from students.

    20 minute interval for morning tea

    Session 2
    When: 10.30am
    Duration: 45 minutes
    Richard Fairgray, Gillian Candler and Fraser Smith all talk about creating their books, and then take questions from students.

    We recommend bringing students for both sessions, however you do have the option of coming to one or the other.

    SECONDARY SCHOOLS
    Session 1
    When: 1pm
    Duration: 50 minutes
    Brian Falkner and Mary-Anne Scott each talk about their writing lives, and then take audience questions.

    Session 2
    When: 2pm
    Duration: 50 minutes
    David Hair and L J Ritchie each talk about their writing lives, and then take audience questions.

    We recommend bringing students for both sessions, however you do have the option of coming to one or the other.

  • Storytimes with finalists and kids' press conference - Wellington Central Library

    Wellington Central Library is hosting a fantabulous story time series featuring finalists from the New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults. Bring your little ones along for stories read by their very own authors and illustrators.

    Here's the timetable:
    9.30am: Story time (under 5s):

    10am: Story time (under 5s)

    10.30am: Story time (under 5s)
    Lisala Halapua, The Mouse and the Octopus
    Gavin Bishop, Helper & Helper

    12noon: Very Special New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults Press Conference hosted by Thalia Kehoe Rowden

    The very special press conference is where a line up of finalists will front up to the hard questions from their readers... kids! So if your young reader has a burning questions, be sure to bring them to the Library at 12noon on Monday 14 August for the Very Special New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults Press Conference.
    Guest appearance from Mayor Justin Lester.
